The state of Nayarit has 5 new Magic Towns and is celebrating. This week, the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) offered the Secretary of State Tourism the distinction of five new “Magical Towns”. The five new Magical Towns of Nayarit are: San Blas, Ahuacatlán, Amatlán de Cañas, Ixtlán del Río and Puerto Balleto. The Pueblos Mágicos initiative is a Mexican tourism program, similar to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, in which unique towns and cities are recognized for their importance to Mexican culture, including their contribution to history, architecture , gastronomy and the arts of the country.

San Blas: History and Natural Beauty

San Blas, known for its historic port and natural beauty, is a destination full of charm. Its fortress, built in the 18th century, and cathedral offer a glimpse into the site’s rich colonial history. The beaches and mangroves of San Blas also offer a unique opportunity to explore the biodiversity of the region. The improvement in maritime access is part of the new initiatives to promote tourism in this Nayarit jewel.

Ahuacatlán: Tradition and Culture

Ahuacatlán is a picturesque and traditional town, famous for its neoclassical style church and its cultural festivals. Local cuisine, with unique and delicious dishes, is another of its great attractions. Ahuacatlán offers a genuine experience of rural Mexican life and is a perfect place for those looking to immerse themselves in the culture and tradition of Nayarit.

Amatlán de Cañas: Adventure and Ecotourism

Amatlán de Cañas is an ideal destination for lovers of adventure and nature. With its rivers, mountains and valleys, it offers opportunities for hiking, rafting and cave exploration. The local community is committed to ecotourism, and visitors can learn about the local flora and fauna while enjoying the natural wonders of the region.

Ixtlán del Río: Archeology and Art

Ixtlán del Río is famous for its archaeological zones, including the site of Los Toriles, one of the most important ceremonial centers in the region. The rich artisan tradition of the place, with ceramics and textiles, also attracts visitors. The inclusion in the new Magical Towns corridor in the southern area of Nayarit highlights the importance of Ixtlán del Río as a cultural destination.

Puerto Balleto: Coastal Paradise

Puerto Balleto, with its beautiful beaches and seascapes, is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sun, sand and sea. Fans of water sports will find a wide variety of activities, from surfing to sport fishing. Nightlife and seafood restaurants offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy hospitality and vibrant local culture.

Promoting Development and Culture

These Magical Towns benefit from multiple tourist programs. The current administration of the state of Nayarit has worked hard to achieve Magical Towns status for the five municipalities, promoting tourism diversity, infrastructure and international level training in the state.

The expansion of infrastructure in Nayarit, including new roads and the transformation of the Tepic airport, as well as the new Pueblos Mágicos corridor, are designed to bring travelers closer to these unique destinations and foster opportunities for new businesses.

Tourism encourages new developments that both visitors and residents can take advantage of year-round. The magic of the nine Magical Towns of Nayarit awaits you. Dare to discover Nayarit.
