The Power of Sport: Crosses and Turns in Banderas Bay
In November 2023, Stephanie Montero starred in the Banderas Bay Crossing, swimming 37.5 km for 14 continuous hours. This challenge not only demonstrated her physical endurance, but also raised more than 500,000 pesos to help free humpback whales trapped in fishing nets.
Months later, in May 2024, Stephanie returned to the charge with the “Vuelta a la Bahía de Banderas”, a 120 km run that strengthened the collective commitment to marine conservation. Both feats are a reminder of the impact that one determined individual can have on wildlife protection.
2nd International Swim for the Whales: Beyond Boundaries
In October 2024, the 2nd International Swim for Whales brought together hundreds of swimmers from 18 countries with an ambitious goal: to raise 1 million pesos for six comprehensive marine conservation projects in the region. This event is not only a platform to highlight the biodiversity of Banderas Bay, but also a space to educate participants and spectators about the challenges faced by humpback whales.
Activities such as these not only promote environmental awareness, but also strengthen the link between local communities, tour operators and the governments of Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay.
A Whale Season Event: The Team Trip
On December 7, 2024, coinciding with the beginning of the whale watching season, the 1st Banderas Bay Round Trip in teams will take place. This event will feature outstanding swimmers such as Nora Toledano, Paulo Strehlke and Patricia Kohlmann, who, together with their teams and the logistical support of experienced kayakers, will join forces for marine conservation.
Beyond the sporting feat, this event promotes responsible tourism, encouraging nautical operators, businesses and visitors to protect biodiversity while enjoying the natural beauty of the region.
A Call to Action: Responsible Tourism and Conservation
Banderas Bay is not only a paradise for tourism, but also an ecosystem that needs our protection. Initiatives such as the “Swim for the Whales” highlight the importance of creating alliances between civil society, the private sector and local governments.
Companies like Marival Resorts have already shown their support to this cause, promoting sustainable activities that reduce the environmental impact on marine life. You can also join us:
