The Night of the Iguana was the pretext which brought little Mario, only 3 years old, along with his family to settle in Puerto Vallarta. Today, Maestro Mario Cibrián has known this Port since those years where there were very few cars on the streets.
"Vallarta was a town with many musicians in the streets; there was always live music. I grew up watching all the people coming from all over the world and playing their instruments in the streets."
Mario Cibrián is a self-taught musician who learned to play guitar by watching the many musicians who visited the Port for local events organized by the city for the common people. He is a very accomplished musician playing jazz, ballads, blues, folk, and so on.
"I was offered work in other cities like many artists that began here; some did not succeed, but I prefer to live in this city, which I really enjoy."
Taking advantage of the duality that has existed since he was only a child, Puerto Vallarta has continued to be that quiet village visited by great artists with whom, when in his youth, he had the opportunity to experience as a musician participating in major gala dinners organized for luminaries of international stature.
For the past nearly two decades of his life, Maestro Cibrián has taught young Vallartans the art of playing the guitar, making him one of the most senior instructors at the Cuale Cultural Center. As a result, many of the young musicians of this city began their musical training with Maestro Mario Cibrián.
His life has been completely devoted to music since he spends much of the day teaching classes. And when not at the Cultural Center, he gets together with local musicians livening up events with which his jazz group "Danzcandonga.
