Have a craving for something? Without alluding to the good looking foreigners that visit us year after year, a walk on the Malecón occasionally unlocks the appetite as you pass in front of the stands that offer diverse options for satisfying hunger. It is here that the Mexican traditions are spotted between stands of corn, shaved ice, sweets, fruits served in glasses, fried bananas, and the refreshing flavored waters.Just like hunger does not rest, neither do they; they are there seven days a week starting at 6:00 pm behind the dolphin fountain on the Malecón.
If you go in the direction of Los Arcos toward Parque Hidalgo, you will find first the stand with corn, famous for the large varieties of salsas that are offered. You are attended by Señora Leticia Jiméz and her husband Ramón Cruz. They offer boiled corn, whole or in kernels served in a cup.The ingredients they use for toppings are: mayonnaise, cotija cheese (a dry cheese similar to parmesan), cream, lime, and chile to taste, and you can select a combination that you desire. Señora Leticia will prepare your order while her husband handles the money.
Another stand you will come across in front is the raspados (shaved ice). Mary attends the stand and prepares a large variety of typical style homemade syrups made with natural fruits. There are tamarindo (a small citrus fruit), coconut, strawberry, and vanilla as well as others. The ice that is used is very clean and is bought from an ice supplier.
Continue moving along and you will find grilled corn on the cob, attended by Señora Victoria Soto. You can select between lightly grilled and almost black or one that is tender and hardly golden, and flavor them with salt, lime, and chile or mayonnaise and butter.
Of course there is no lacking of sweets, the favorite of children. Bottled waters, very cold canned sodas, and the fruit flavored water that you find to the side with assorted flavors of jamaica, lima (a citrus fruit with a juicy, sour pulp), horchata (sweetened rice water), strawberry, lime, and orange.
If all of this did not manage to satiate your hunger, then yes, there is also the eye candy.
