PUERTO VALLARTA: CONTEMPORARY ART

by Rubén Cham |

The organizers of this inaugural festival, to be held May 28 through June 1, have invited artists from Los Angeles to provide a cultural dialogue with Mexican artists regarding extended borders, globalization and hybrid identities, framed by the ever-changing demographics of Puerto Vallarta. All the participating artists have been exhibited in prestigious museums in the United States and Mexico, and many have exhibits in the prominent Whitney Museum Biennial. Art is not limited to painting; works will include contemporary video art techniques, set up and photography. For one week every year, innovative contemporary art will take center stage here, transforming our cultural character and pushing the limits of how we see and define Puerto Vallarta. As the festival grows, it is hoped that Puerto Vallarta will become an inspiration for contemporary artists and a focal point of discussion and creativity.

Exhibition space will be provided by three galleries: Thierry Blouet Fine Art Collection, Galleria Omar Alonso and Galleria des Artistes. Public art exhibits, video projections and installations will also be on the Malecon and nearby locations. Panel discussion will be held at various venues, according to the attached program. Downtown Puerto Vallarta will come alive with art. This is a program residents and visitors will not want to miss.
