Las Casitas

by Jaime Farré Rivera |

Those of us who dwell in this beautiful port city may not yet have taken the opportunity to visit one of the many local hotel restaurants, either not expecting a good experience, or believing that hotel restaurants only serve guests, or perhaps many other reasons. However, most major hotels have a complete food and beverage department peopled with qualified individuals; with menus carefully developed by an Executive Chef and his team, who select reliable suppliers of fresh ingredients. In short, behind each hotel restaurant is the work of many culinary professionals.
With all this in mind we went to Las Casitas at the Marriott Casa Magna Hotel. It is located near the beach front of the hotel, allowing us one of the best views in the area. Spacious tables arranged around the large central bar provide an excellent location from almost any seat.
We were received with great courtesy and chose a table where we could see Downtown/Centro Puerto Vallarta with its usual bustle. The menu and wine list promptly appeared the latter, quite extensive.
From the menu we select the grilled red snapper at $220 pesos, which is marinated in achiote and served with caramelized pineapple, steamed rice and a guajillo chili broth; a tasty dish; both savory and well balanced, with a little spicy guajillo remaining on the palate after each bite.
I ordered the grilled mahi-mahi fillet, for $210 pesos, golden fresh marinated with lime zest and served on toasted fromage de chèvre and a mirror of black bean sauce with a dash of pico de gallo on the entire portion. The mahi-mahi was cooked to perfection and the blend of flavors and textures resulted in a dish of contrasting tastes that gave the dish a very nice touch.
For the occasion, my guest ordered a margarita at $95 pesos and I chose a glass of chilled water, although as I have mentioned, there is a wide selection of wines and spirits available.
We were invited to try the desserts on our next visit and along with any of the offered liqueurs.
It is well worth a visit to Las Casitas to sample their creative cuisine that seeks to offer guests a unique dining experience.
