Congratulations Puerto Vallarta!

by Juan Espinoza |

On December 12, 1851, Don Guadalupe Sánchez Torres founded the town which he called Las Peñas de Santa Maria de Guadalupe, which evolved into Puerto Las Peñas. By May 31, 1918, Las Peñas was granted the title of town, changing its name to Puerto Vallarta, in honor of the governor who was state of Jalisco, Don Ignacio L. Vallarta.
To celebrate its first 50 years as a municipality on May 31, 1968, Puerto Vallarta was upgraded to a city by decree of the State Congress of Jalisco.
Thus on May 30 and 31, Puerto Vallarta will be in fiesta garb to celebrate its 41st anniversary as a city and 91st anniversary as a municipality. Unfortunately for health reasons, the month-long May festivities were canceled, however, the city invites you to come and celebrate over these two days and show the whole world that despite recent setbacks, Puerto Vallarta, is better than ever.

2nd ANNUAL NATIONAL "CASTILLOS DE MORILLO" CONTEST
The festivities will begin on Saturday May 30 at approx. 8:30pm as part of the second edition of the National "CastIllos de Morillo" in the baseball stadium area of the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Stadium.
Even with the pleasant memories of the International Fireworks Symposium left with us, this contest promises not to fall behind and with colorful performances that will illuminate the skies of Puerto Vallarta. It is hoped that this competition will be entrenched as a tradition and, thus becoming an attraction for Mexican and foreign tourism.
This year, the attendance of 8 members has been confirmed: Adam Sergio Rodriguez, Toluca; Guillermo Suarez Escobar of Coyula, Jalisco; Aurelio Macias Reyes, Guadalajara; Antonio Zagal Flores, Puerto Vallarta, José Luis Rodríguez Morán of Zapopan; Lorenzo López Alejandre, Michoacan, Maria de Jesus Ochoa Negrete, Colima, and Javier Sanchez Zayago, Irapuato, Guanajuato.
Apart from having the opportunity to see the always-spectacular fireworks, you may also enjoy Mexican mariachi music, in addition to the presentation of Xiutla folk ballet.
In order that as many people as possible are able to enjoy this stunning spectacle, City Council has met with various public transport providers to ensure service to the various colonias of the city after the event. So there is no excuse not to celebrate Puerto Vallarta's birthday.

STARTING WITH CAKE!
Various events have been prepared for Sunday May 31. The celebrations for this day will begin at 7:00pm at the pavilion in the Central Plaza of Puerto Vallarta with live music. But this is only the preamble to the "Vallarta Awards" at 8:00pm; given to seven individuals or institutions representing each of the following fields: art, social welfare, culture, sports, ecology, education and tourism. The recipients were chosen by an advisory council created for the sole responsibility of selecting the winner of this important recognition.
Immediately after the Vallarta Awards will be the cutting of the cake commemorating the anniversaries of Puerto Vallarta. The City Council invites the public to witness the cutting of the cake, which will be for approximately 2 thousand people.
Events will continue at 11:00pm at the seahorse statue on the Malecon, then fireworks for the enjoyment of those attending, and once completed, a dance begins open to the general public.
So don't forget, Puerto Vallarta has long tables and you're the invited guest. So please attend and say Happy Birthday to Puerto Vallarta!
