Ceremony to Welcome the Spring Equinox

The people responsible for the International Vallartense Summit for Natural, Traditional and Alternative Medicine held here recently are bringing one of the most anticipated events of the year will be held to welcome the spring Equinox, when the Earth is equally illuminated by the Sun in the northern and southern hemispheres. In many cultures, it's believed that this is a magical moment, which allows in light and peace. The event will be held at the archeological site at Ixtapa; chosen because of its abundance of ceremonial white herons and because it contains a tomb site, ball field and ceremonial grounds from the Aztecs. Beginning March 19, they will be there waiting for the exact moment of the Equinox. This year, it's scheduled to happen between 11:00 pm and 11:59 pm on Wednesday, March 19. Nonetheless, they will be there until March 23, performing cleansings, adjustments and massages.
They will settle camp there March 18 and celebrate the planting ceremony known as temazcalli to pay tribute to fire, with dances and ritualistic chants to the beat of drums (huehues) and ceremonial conch shells.
The program's opening ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, March 19, with the cleansing ceremony starting at 7:00 pm. The same is scheduled for Thursday, March 20, at 7:00 am and again at 7:00 pm, closing the day's event with an invitation to participate in the singing after 9:00 pm. On Friday, March 21, the ceremony and dance will start at 7:00 am, followed at 11:00 am by a demonstration of Trique wedding traditions.
The cleansing ceremonies will continue from 9:00 am and 12:00 pm; healing massages are scheduled for 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. To close the event, a special ceremony is scheduled at 7:00 pm.
From March 19 to 23, an open-air market will be set up, with natural products, herbs, crystals, ointments and samples, as well as native and urban art by faith healers, tribal priests and holistic doctors.
