Art in Punta Mita

by Vallarta Online Staff |

As a tribute to San Sebastián, Meg Munro produced a series of idyllic scenes from this mining town nestled in the Sierra Madre Occidental. With impeccable technique, perfect drawing, and the personal touches she imparts through watercolors, separating herself from the traditional regarding transparency and saturation, the final result of Meg's work is hyperrealism with vibrant colors reminiscent of the work by Mondrián.

Just a few months after the anniversary of Patrick Denouns' death, this collection of giclees and original pieces comprises the masterpieces by this excellent French painter. Patrick Denoun's work is a collection of images compiled throughout his travels and replicated on canvas, where light and shade commingle.

Memories of the artist highlight a visual fusion of his passage through India, Thailand, Bali, Morocco, northern Africa and Mexico, which he visited repeatedly from 1976 to 1985, when he decided to move to Puerto Vallarta. Nature scenes, with an impeccably realistic technique, reflect the variety the artist found in the natural world: life forms, colors, flavors, flora, fauna, sunsets and sunlight.

All the simple things in life he encountered in his travels are the source: women working wool and transforming it into colorful textiles, artisans molding clay into vases, mountain dwellers at the market to sell their fruits, "terrestrial beings," as described by the artist. "I prefer to express myself with the Eden we have here on earth, to protect that life, the trees, the plants, and the people."

Patrick Denoun, born in Paris in 1950, studied several artistic techniques in the prestigious Boulle French art academy, where he enrolled at age seventeen with a group of 160 students selected from 3,000 candidates. There, he learned a great deal about wood sculpture. After having worked as a sculptor, he decided to return to painting and colors. His work has been the subject of annual expositions in Geneva, Brussels, Zurich, Paris, Lyons, and Lugarno. During the past two decades, his work has been featured in galleries throughout France, the United States, Australia and India.
