A Tour with a Nostalgic Flavor

by Vallarta Online Staff |

Visiting the city for the first time? Don't worry. A tour in the tourist street car will provide ample information to familiarize you with the most important aspects of Vallarta's downtown or "Centro" and environs. You don't believe me? Just try it.

This pleasant trolley leaves every 30 or 40 minutes outside the McDonald's restaurant at the beginning of the Malecón. Please Note: You may have to wait until there are enough passengers, but once they have boarded, you need only pay $5.00 US per person and make yourself comfortable.

Like music at a carnival, a recording (a type of bilingual virtual guide) will welcome you. The route starts at "31 de October" Street, where the tour begins and ends, and it will take you along a kilometer the Malecón, stopping at the famous Sea Horse sculpture, Los Arcos and the Main Plaza. Further on you will cross the bridge over the Cuale River and its colorful market on the Isla Cuala welcoming you to "Old Vallarta"; the zone that still possess the ambiance of the small fishing town it once was with its brilliant white houses with red terra-cotta roofing tiles.

To the south you enter the Romantic Zone and Basilio Badillo Street, well-known as the "Street of Cafes", where you will find a wide variety of great restaurants to satisfy your every taste in fine dining. Soon, you will come upon the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe; another local landmark, where you can contemplate with serenity the tourists and the sites.

Perhaps it is not most complete tour of Vallarta, but I assure you that it is enough to give you a taste of some of the small details in the history of our city, and experience, though on wheels, the essence of the old and more traditional Vallarta.
